Tonghai sells 30% of its vegetables to Southeast Asia, Middle East

The Tonghai county in central Yunnan’s Yuxi city is exporting 30% of its vegetables and other produces to the Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern countries, accounting for over one-third of Yunnan’s total agricultural exports.

The county has grown 64 green-food products on a certified cultivation area of 65,000 mu (approximately 4,333 hectares). Some 70% of Tonghai vegetables are sold to over 130 large and medium-sized cities across China.

Tonghai boasts 10,000 hectares of standardized farmlands that feature straight ridges, crisscrossing irrigation pipes and flourishing vegetables. Lettuce, cabbage and cauliflower are grown in rotational cycles.

Thanks to the favorable climate, vegetables and crops can be harvested 4 or 5 times in Tonghai county all year round. This non-stop rhythm of production has entitled the county "vegetable warehouse of Southwest China."
