An avocado producing area in southwest Yunnan’s Menglian county

A total of 1,500 kilograms of fresh avocados produced in southwest Yunnan’s Menglian county were recently exported to ASEAN, having been inspected by the Simao branch of Kunming Customs.

Departing from the Menglian Avocado Distribution Center, the first batch of avocados were shipped to Malaysia and Thailand either by direct air freight or by land-to-sea transfer.

The avocados are produced in southwest Yunnan’s Menglian county.

Located near 22°N latitude, Menglian County shares almost the same latitude as Uruapan, Mexico, renowned as the "Avocado Capital of the World." With mild winters and cool summers, the region offers an ideal environment for avocado growth.

Since its first introduction of avocado cultivation in 2007, Menglian has grown into the largest avocado plantation in China. In 2024, the county planted 8,046 hectares of avocado, with an output value of 1.521 billion yuan.
