Water-splashing festival celebrated across Yunnan

The annual Water-splashing Festival, also known as Songkran Festival in some Mekong countries, was celebrated across Yunnan province over the past weekend, bringing joy and auspiciousness to visitors and locals alike.

A water-splashing carnival is in full swing on April 12-14, at the Laoyuhe Wetland Park that lies on the eastern shore of the Dainchi Lake in central Yunnan’s Kunming city.

April 13 sees tourists and residents gather on banks of the Lancang River section, upper reach of the Mekong River, in south Yunnan’s Xishuangbanna prefecture for the 2024 Water-splashing Festival, or the 1386 New Year on Dai calendar.

Some 80,000 celebrate the Water-splashing Festival from April 12 to 15 in west Yunnan’s Dehong Dai and Jingpo autonomous prefecture.
