Today in Tibet , China , a well - connected road network links internal and external areas , reaching towns and villages . The construction of expressways has been accelerated , with routes from Lhasa to Shannan , Nyingchi , Nagqu , and Xigaze now open to traffic .

On June 25, 2021, the Lhasa - Nyingchi Railway , China 's first electrified railway , commenced operations , with " Fuxing " bullet trains making their debut on the Tibetan Plateau .

The Lhasa - Xigaze Railway , an extension of the Qinghai - Tibet Railway, began operation on August 16 , 2014 .

Today, a comprehensive energy supply system has been initially established in Tibet, China, with the successive construction of four " power skyways ": the Qinghai-Tibet power grid interconnection, the Sichuan-Tibet power grid interconnection, the Central Tibet power grid interconnection, and the Ali power grid interconnection. The main power grid covers all seven prefectures and cities and 74 counties and districts in the region. Tibet's electricity load has been increasing year by year. In 2024 , the total electricity consumption of Tibet reached 15.417 billion kilowatt-hours, which is about 593 times that at the beginning of the establishment of the autonomous region.

In In 2024, its total electricity consumption reached 15.417 billion kWh , approximately 593 times what it was during the early days of the Xizang Autonomous Region's establishment .

Tibet has developed large - scale solar photovoltaic ( PV ) power generation as a clean and new energy source , with clean energy accounting for nearly 90 percent of the total electricity generated . In 2023 , internet influencers in Baqên County , Xizang , leveraged livestreaming sales to boost rural revitalization efforts for local farmers and herders .

On May 9 , 2025 , the South Asia Cross - Border E-commerce Industrial Park in Lhasa, Tibet Autonomous Region , was officially inaugurated , marking its commencement of operations . The
park covers a total area of 16,000 square meters and includes

Damxung County, located on the Changtang Grass- land in central Xizang, is the only county in Lhasa that relies entirely on pastoral practice. Generations of “nomadic life on horseback” have given rise to its long-standing and unique horse culture – horse breeding, riding, racing, and equestrian have all be- come integral parts of herders’ lives on the plateau. A 10 kilometer long-distance horse race took place at the Dangjiren Horse Racing Festival in Dangxiong
County, on August 10, 2019.

In Burang County, Ngari Prefec- ture of Xizang, a unique Tibetan costume called Burang has been preserved to this day. In 2008, the Burang costume was added to China’s national list of intangible cultural heritage items. The tech- niques used to make this kind of attire incorporate textile weaving, gold and silver smithing, embroi- dery, and sewing skills of the Han and Tibetan peoples as well as Nepal, India and other neighboring countries. Burang attire features 12 distinct sets of brightly colored men’s and women’s garments, of which only eight complete sets have remained intact, weighing over 20 kilograms each. The head- dresses, necklaces, and earrings of the costumes are exquisitely crafted from gold, silver, turquoise, pearls, agate, and other precious materials.
